Cabanas La Conchita

Cabanas La Conchita is an enchanting hideaway located on a white powder sand beach in Tulum, Mexico, owned by Santa Barbara artist Cynthia James.

James built the hotel in 2000 after having owned the property for 4 years.  She personally designed the structures and the interiors along with her husband.  She also mixed the cement colors herself and studied how to apply the “Tadalekt” method used in Morroco for the interior walls, which involves polishing the cement and sealing it with beeswax.

Uninterrupted ocean views and a beachfront location make this cabana a top choice for romantics. The private terrace is partly shaded and the palapa roof allows natural ventilation to keep the interior cool. Deceptively spacious, they feature a king size bed, private bathroom with shower and a closet.

The little round houses are charmingly furnished with locally made crafts.  Windows are screened and can be left open at night for added ventilation if required.

The palapa roof and mosquito netting over the bed provide tropical touches that are perfectly matched by the view outside. The quaint bathroom has all the essentials and lots of character.

The resort is well managed and the staff knowledgeable about the area; they also speak excellent English. As an added bonus, it is fairly quiet and isn’t big enough to be overrun with large groups and families.  For those in search of a simple but idyllic beach vacation, Cabanas la Conchita could be heaven on earth. The basic facilities are all within easy walking distance; several casual restaurants, a public telephone, exchange house, bicycle rental, diving and snorkeling trips and even adventure tours can be arranged nearby. Massage service is now available at the hotel.

Guest comment:

“The place is wonderful. We loved everything about it-the location, the setting and the employees are perfect. We stayed in cabana #7 which is awesome, the view from the hammock and the front door is amazing. You are so close to the ocean and you can hear it all the time. The breakfast is very nice and filling and  french toast is delicious.  Candlelight during the day and night is so much fun. There are many cabanas in this area and we felt that we made the best choice! The village of Tulum has so much character. Great trip, fabulous place!”
